ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM AT SOUTH DADE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
The Advanced Placement program is a challenging academic program that requires dedication, passion, and hard work from both students and educators in secondary schools and higher education. It has been around since 1955, and has helped millions of students earn college credit, get advanced placement, and stand out in the admission process. In addition, students learn from highly skilled, dedicated, and inspiring teachers from all over the world.
Our AP faculty’s expertise is evident in the students’ success on AP exams and the teachers’ leadership roles at district and national levels. Our teachers at South Dade Senior High School are involved in multiple roles within Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Magnet competitions, Art Exhibitions, and College Board Professional Education, which is why we are very proud of our Advanced Placement Program.
BENEFITS ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM
Taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses can equip students with the necessary skills and habits to excel during their college years. By enrolling in AP, students can enhance their writing abilities, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and cultivate time management, discipline, and study habits. Research conducted in 2008 revealed that students who took AP courses achieved better four-year graduation rates in comparison to those who didn’t. For instance, students who completed AP English Literature had a 62% higher graduation rate than those who took other English courses in high school. Additionally, students who participate in AP may increase their chances of receiving scholarships and admission to prestigious colleges.
